Evening Primrose Oil provides Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). The primary biological activity of EPO is attributed to its GLA content. By supplying GLA, it bypasses the rate-limiting step in the metabolism of linoleic acid (LA). After ingestion, GLA is rapidly absorbed and converted directly to DGLA and other prostaglandin precursors, acting on the prostanoid pathway.
Formerly contraindicated for patients with schizophrenia; however, recent studies have not shown a clear therapeutic or harmful effect on schizophrenic patients using evening primrose oil supplements.
At appropriate levels, side effects are uncommon. Overdosing might result in loose stools and stomach aches.
Due to the presence of linolenic acid, GLA, and DGLA in human breast milk, evening primrose oil should be avoided during nursing. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), pregnant or lactating women should get 5% of their total daily caloric intake from essential fatty acids (EFAs).
Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light & moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
